Top 10 Tile Trends from National Tile Day
Mixed color palettes, natural wood looks and precious-gemstone styles are among the strongest trends in tile.
For the fourth annual National Tile Day on February 23rd, 2020, the main sponsors of Capra and Coverings - Tile of Spain, Ceramics of Italy, and the Tile Council of North America – have collected and reported the strongest trends in tile for the coming year. Their announcement comes two months ahead of the Coverings 2020 tile show, taking place from April 20-23, 2020 in New Orleans.
Based on the partnership’s observations and predictions, the top tile trends for the coming year include:
1. Mixed color palettes. Coverings’ partners note the popularity of Classic Blue, Pantone’s Color of the Year, as well as blush pink, sage green and dusty oranges.
2. Natural wood looks, owing to advances in ink and fit and digital printing.
3. Precious stone and gemstone styles, particularly marble, agate, onyx, and pearlescent looks.
4. Mixed geometrics, including trapezoid, rhombus and diamond shaped tiles.
5. Gauged porcelain tile countertops, which Coverings’ partners attribute to their durability and stain-resistance.
6. Bright, psychedelic colors, trippy patterns and “playful” geometry.
7. Industrial chic, including concrete- and stone-look tile.
8. Modernized emulated marble adapted to fit contemporary design preferences.
9. Speckled surfaces, including terrazzo-like patterns.
10. Large patterns, particularly on ceramic tiles.
“National Tile Day is an incredible way to spotlight a timeless element of architecture and design that connects members of the tile community and its supporting industries,” says Alena Capra, Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer and Coverings Industry Ambassador. “This National Tile Day, we are excited to share with everyone the progress and importance of one of the most practical and beautiful building materials through some highly engaging and unique social media activations and programs.”
